Vista Bridge, Portland, Oregon

Now that I am back in Portland, I work right next to this amazing piece of architecture. Sadly it is known as the suicide bridge, because of its association with multiple suicides and attempts. I wanted to begin exploring this setting from the very green West Hills of Downtown Portland, Oregon.

The image is not yet fully complete. The character is currently standing as a place holder as well.

Sculpting Like Crazy

The last couple of months I have gotten really into customizing and sculpting vinyl toys. I have really tried to build these kidrobot munnies up a lot. Have a look.

Turnpike Sketch

This week I started the “Introduction to Digital Painting,” course with Andrew Hou (Schoolism.com).  The course seems fairly straightforward so far.  A lot of button commands and other review items, but I do look forward to learning and improving through the course and assignments.

The homework assignment was to simply sketch a character.  I am out of town, so I don’t have my cintiq with me.  It took a bit of adjustment, but here is a sketch of my own character, “Turnpike.”  This was good for me, because I was able to continue to develop his character shape, color way, etc.  I am happy with the direction he is moving in so far.

Kidrobot/ Threadless Contest

Kidrobot and Threadless.com announced a t shirt contest a few weeks ago. The only rule was that you had to use the bot character (head or full body) and no other characters. Here is my submission. I will post the voting links as soon as voting begins.

Sparky

Today I had the opportunity to work on a pencil and paper piece for a friend. She is a big “Frankenweenie” fan and really wanted this image. I had a lot of fun playing with these characters. It is so incredible to me that you can create such elaborate characters with so little details and simple shapes.

Oquirrh Mountain Temple Charity Piece

20130719-195607.jpg

Recently I donated a 16×20 painting to be used as a charity donation for a silent auction. The proceeds were to assist with local youth group activities. The winner of the auction was able to choose a painting of whatever they wanted, and I would create that image for them. The winner asked me to paint this LDS Temple located in South Jordan, Utah. There are actually two temples in South Jordan, and this one is known as the “Oquirrh Mountain Temple.” Across the valley is a third temple on the mountain. I was asked to make that temple visible in the image as well.

Schoolism Drawing Fundamentals: Assignment 4

This week’a course was on layout. We were assigned to take 5 pieces of clip art and draw them into a scene. 3 of the five were dogs, so I decided I wanted them working together to escape. Here is what I came up with:
